A Sweeping View

Do you know how pretty you are,

in the light of the ev'ning star?

As I caress your pretty face,

and hold hands while fingers enlace,

Beauty herself is here with you,

entrancing me with love anew.

What could be said versus what should be said,

As tact vies with truth to cause me travail.

What reflections should stay unsaid instead?

I pray an honest mix of both prevail.

A friendly friend shares your trust,

A friendly lover shares your lust,

A loving friend shares your strife,

A loving lover shares your life.

On one side, I'm encroaching thirty nine,

On the other, fifteen.

Among the poems carried full term, there lay

a few that miscarry along the way.

 May 3, 1998

Ithyphallic verses,

 Lend themselves to curses.

 Heavy-footed columns,

 March on past in threesomes,

 Pounding on my eardrums.

  June 26, 1998

Attractive to the eyes,

 So pleasing to the nose,

 Evokes from lovers, sighs;

Earth's fragrant gift, the rose.

 July 13, 1998

Too tired to read, too restless to sleep,

With ev'ry gaping yawn my eyes do weep,

Begging for a good, long, night's slumber deep.
